WATCH: Houston law enforcement save residents, animals in high floodwaters over the weekend

HOUSTON – As residents in the Houston-area did their best to try and avoid getting stuck in the flood waters, local law enforcement officials were still out to protect their neighbors.

Dramatic bodycam video shared Saturday by the Houston Police Department, for example, showed one officer saving a man and three of his dogs near the San Jacinto River.

According to HPD, Officer H. Scott heard a man yelling for help in a trailer park near where the San Jacinto River enters Lake Houston.

On the same day, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez shared his own photos of him and his deputies making high-water rescues in east Harris County. One of the photos shows nearly a dozen puppies rescued.

Out in East Harris County. Each time we pass through, we find a few more that are ready for assistance.

The flood waters have since steadily been receding but roads in the area, which saw a majority of flooding, are still considered hazardous. Additionally, Harris County is offering ways to help residents who are picking up the pieces from the severe weather damage.
