Blast from the past: Bright stars that have performed at RodeoHouston

HOUSTON – The list of entertainers that have rocked the rodeo stage dates back to the 1940′s with stars like Gene Autry but as the rodeo grew in popularity so did the entertainer lineups.

Recent lineups include stars like George Strait, Alan Jackson, Brooks and Dunn, Reba, Brad Paisley, Tim McGraw, Beyonce, Bruno Mars and Justin Bieber.

“We are working two to three years out on determining who’s part of the lineup and we use audience research among our volunteers as well as our memberships and we also do surveys with the general public to see what people are interested in see,” said Jason Kane the former Managing Director of Entertainment and now Entertainment Consultant.

Kane said he’s been with RodeoHouston for almost 20 years and he knows what it takes to put together a lineup.

“Elvis has played, the Jackson 5, Charlie Pride and of course in the modern era stars like George Strait and Garth Brooks have been some of the cornerstones of our entertainment. “Selena, her last public performance was here in the Astrodome at the Houston livestock show and Rodeo,” Kane said.

Kane told KPRC 2 that once rodeo season is over, planning for the next year begins.

“It’s right back to work because everybody is scheduling dates, further and further in advance and we got to keep up with that,” Kane said.
