Rodeo Houston tickets: What’s being done to fight fraud

You’ve probably seen the rodeo concert ticket sales all over social media. But watch out - a lot of those ads are fake and just thieves trying to trick you. The folks from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo are working to stop fraud and protect you from getting ripped off.

“I can say as a mom it is very concerning to me. I don’t want somebody that has a family of four purchasing unvalidated tickets and then showing up here at the gate expecting to spend four or five hours with their children because they didn’t go to axs.com or RodeoHouston.Com,” said Amber Burda, Chief Revenue Officer, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Amber Burda is the Chief Revenue Officer for the Rodeo Houston. That means she is in charge of tickets and sponsorship dollars and scams tied to the rodeo are a big concern.

“It’s definitely declining because the pieces of technology that are coming out with access and with our app it’s really being able to take control over those bad actors in the world,” said Burda.

That’s because if there’s any issues the rodeo can track who’s doing what through their system. Burda explains how people make copies of tickets.

“We’ve seen them in the past, but the thing is you have a hologram, and we track all of these who we give them or who we sell them to for season ticketholders, suite holders, things like that, so we can actually take the number and go track who made the copy of it,” she said.

Burda says the best way to avoid getting scammed is to avoid buying tickets on social media. This is the main way people are losing money and getting fake tickets. When you purchase something via social media or a website other than the rodeo those purchases can’t be validated.

What is the best way to buy Rodeo Houston concert tickets?

The Rodeo Houston spokesperson tells KPRC 2 the safest way to buy tickets secondhand is by using the app. Rodeo fans can purchase secondary market tickets through AXS, the Rodeo’s only verified secondary market, available at RodeoHouston.com.

A person can easily transfer tickets to your app. Here’s what the Rodeo Houston website says about this:

“Primary tickets, purchased directly from RODEOHOUSTON, and verified secondary market tickets are available for purchase on the same page at rodeohouston.com. Once secondary market tickets are available to purchase, they will appear in the link as a different color than primary market tickets. Secondary market tickets may be available prior to the public on sale(s) via its own link, should a Rodeo season ticket holder decide to sell their tickets for a specific night, but those secondary market tickets will be taken off sale during the public onsale. The 2023 public onsale date will be announced at a later time. After the public onsale traffic has peaked, primary and secondary tickets will be available to purchase on the same page at rodeohouston.com, identified with different colors.

Purchasing tickets through AXS, the Rodeo’s only verified secondary market, allows buyers a safe place to purchase RODEOHOUSTON tickets on the secondary market with the security of knowing tickets purchased are valid for entry.”
