If your musical taste is craving something new and refreshing, you might want to add local indie alternative rock band Vortxz to your playlist.

The group includes two longtime friend groups who merged to create a unique sound. Initially, just something fun for the guys to do. Now, the band Vortxz is official, made up of lead singer Rambo Rodarte, drummer Jonathan Lopez, bassist Luar Quintanilla, and lead guitarist/keyboard player Noe Rodriguez.

“We loved to do it as a hobby in the beginning, but we soon realized like ok, we want to go far and we see the potential,” lead guitarist Noe Rodriguez said.

That potential has led the band to play in the SXSW music festival in Austin and a sold-out tour on the West Coast, where they’ll return this weekend. Their fans appreciate 4 young Latinos representing the genre.

“We’re very proud that we have our community backing us up, it motivates us to keep on growing and playing,”Quintanilla said.

The next time you can catch Vortxz in Houston will be on May 16 at Discovery Green for the UHD Thursday Night Concerts. It’s open to the public and free.
